The story of a family passion

since 1870

1870 , Joseph ECKLE begins working in the vines with around 1 ha, which he works entirely by hand. 1924 , Paul and André the two sons share the vines following the death of Joseph. Paul cultivated his 80 ares and enlarged the property to 1.20 ha, while continuing to sell the wine in bulk, in barrels or in cylinder. Jean-Paul ECKLE , since he was 12, has been working in the vineyards to help his parents. In 1954 , when his father died, he decided to continue working on the 1.20 ha alongside his mother. Then, he took over the estate in 1961 with his father's horse "Rusky" and sold the beef. Everything then developed in the early 1960s, and Jean-Paul extended the property to 9ha, and began bottling at the property. Today he is 93 years old and is still in great shape. 1996 , Emmanuel, the last of the siblings of 5 children, takes over and develops the business with his wife, Christine. Today he works 9.5 ha, the harvest is vinified, aged and bottled at the estate. Finally, since 2020 , their daughter Emma is gradually joining the family estate to perpetuate the savoir-faire and the family passion.

Katzenthal

Katzenthal, in Alsatian 'La Vallée des Chats', is a small village nestled at the foot of the Vosges along the Alsace Wine Route, 5 km from the wine capital, COLMAR.

This small rural village, whose origins date back to the 11th - 12th centuries, is overlooked by a castle called WINECK '' Wine Corner '', several hundred years old. The inhabitants of the village, numbering 530, live mainly from the fruit of the land and its renowned wines which flourish in the best terroirs, benefiting from ideal exposures.
